• Description

  Walter is generally shy, pessimistic, and depressing. He sees no light at the end of the tunnel. He speaks quietly, and does not feel comfortable revealing his true motivations. Nothing about him is warm or inviting, he would like to be close to people, but is fearful to make the first move. Deep down he is a hopeless romantic, though in a slightly twisted way, thinking it would be quite lovely to die with a lover or especially to be killed by one.
  
  His temperament is even, and he is generally calm, possessing great patience and rarely showing his feelings outwardly. He genuinely enjoys creating and playing music, almost exclusively somber or sad sounding music, depressing at best. His patience and knack for absorbing knowledge makes him a good Wizard, specializing in intelligence and wisdom, but lacking in charisma, being fairly cynical and dark, even when he has a good alignment.
  
  Hes very physically week, spending long periods of time bed ridden and unable to do much more than read. He has to be exceptionally careful not to hurt or poison himself, since his body is slow to heal and quite fragile. All this makes him nearly incapable of traveling. His favorite instruments are large and cumbersome, or completely immovable (like the pipe organ).
  
  He has always struggled with a bone-marrow illness that makes his blood thin and ineffective. This leaves him very tired and sometimes unable to leave his bed. However his cynical nature is not related to this, he simply fails to see the positive side in anything. Hopelessness and Depression are a common problem for him, only lifting from him when something sparks his interest, sending him into a flurry of research and experimentation, simply forgetting to be sad.

• Biography

  Walter was born to Deidre and Tobias Blake along with his twin sister Selene in the kingdom of Thalassinus. While being twins, they look nothing alike, Walter sharing his human father's short stature and pale skin; while his sister is tall and dark skilled like his mother. However he has his mother's very feminine features. Walter was always sick as a child, and continued to be so to adulthood, though he became slightly stronger with age. This kept him inside and bedridden, while his healthy sister played with their parents. Walter didn't resent anyone for this affliction however, and used this time to read stories, enjoying fairy tales a great deal. Later he turned his attention to art, music, and to some extent magic. Although he couldn't see the outside world, he enjoyed reading about it. When energetic enough to get up, he would spend his time learning to play instruments and draw things he dreamed of or read about. This early start at art made it easy for him to branch over to writing music and a steady hand for drawing perfect circles and symbols for spells.
  
  As a young man Walter was very dour, but kind, liking to use his talents to help others. Because his father was the mortician of the kingdom in which they lived, he was exposed to the dead early. Occasionally aiding in preparing them for burial and learning the rites that the various religions said over them along the way. His father also used his access to the bodies to teach Walter about anatomy and function, robbing the boy of any squeamishness and leaving him with a very good sense of how a living thing worked. His father had unknowingly prepared him for his decent into necromancy.
  
  Once he had lost his parents Walter couldn't really stand being alone, so because the mortuary was in connection to the church he joined as part of the clergy. Over the next few years he became quite involved in his priesthood and used his skills and knowledge primarily to heal others. This was a happy but lonely time in his life, despite being a good healer he did still work in the mortuary and had few friends. Even so, he enjoyed his work and was quite devout. This lasted for many years until he happened to come across a curse that he could not undo that sent him researching dark things and seeking alternatives to the usual holy methods. During this research he met a practitioner of dark magic that knew quite a bit about curses and who was willing to help him find a counter-curse and save the afflicted person.
  
  During this research Walter came across the odd glove Seregmir which he quickly realized gave him a much better control over healing as well as a way to alleviate the symptoms of the curse. He could not completely get rid of it, but he could make it easier to live with which made him slightly more valuable as a priest. Unfortunately this was also the beginning of his decent into darkness. With the continuation of the research Walter became good friends with the mage, and even when it was clear that neither of them could possibly undo this curse Walter followed and helped him. His friendship turned to love, and though the mage had no problem with the priest's gender-preference he did not return the feelings. This was the first time though that Walter was ever in love and he went a bit too far, becoming infatuated both with the practitioner and the darkness that he lived in. Seregmir's natural tendency to corrupt it's users coupled with this obsession soon brought Walter too far from his holy origins, quite noticeably tainting his power and forcing him to leave the church. Soon after the mage was forced to leave the city as well, leaving Walter's love unrequited and without anyone to fall back on.
  
  Now alone he spent his time learning to use Seregmir, growing physically stronger and more skilled in dark magic. It wasnt long until he'd forgotten the cursed person altogether and simply left to continue his work privately in a secluded cabin in the woods. He was not healthy enough to go any farther though and spent several years here trapped in a cocoon of loneliness and shadow.
  
  Later on in life, after becoming stronger, he ventured out a bit into the world. Somewhat losing his love for fairy tales he became more interested in science and magical research. His cynical 'everyone will die someday' attitude lead him to experiment quietly on himself and others, straying from his artistic origins and into his wizard stage and falling from good to neutral evil. His darkness isn't really an actual effort to hurt others, but more an apathy to their suffering and pain, though rarely putting them through anything he himself could not endure. His quiet, shy nature turned into more of a reclusive coldness, having a great deal more love and respect for his research than for living company.
  
  After a few years of study on his own, mostly on negative energy and it's effects on the undead, he came to work under an old necromancer named Melanthios. His new mentor was one of a pair of brothers who were dedicated to the dead god Myrkul, collecting every artifact and writing of him. The two knew that a god could not truly die until he was forgotten, and as such they tried to bring in new believers, one of them being Walter. While Walt never was quite the follower that Melanthios was, he took to the teachings and studied hard, becoming exceptionally good at it through nothing more than hard work and determination.

  Age 70+: Alone again, working towards becoming a lich
